November 19th

Them Completed Prompts

  • Firkytoodle (writingfreak)
”Firkytoodle to you too,” I said with a smile, pulling my arms out from around him.
  • Deipnosophist (Thea)
“Oh, and deipnosophist was the word of the day, though I suspect it’s after midnight so it’s probably changed.”
  • Hot Chocolate (Maggie)
“Then order a hot chocolate,” I said, hitting the enter key on the keyboard, which started up the portal.
  • Dyad (Thea)
Pulling Mason along behind me, I reached my hand into the blue-grey goo, forcing our little dyad through the portal.
  • Wisteria (Alaina)
Directly in front of me was the coffee shop Cerise told me about, called ‘Wisteria Umber’ and next to it, just as Cerise had said, was a tiny shop that looked like it was about to explode from the amount of books it held.
  • Lost Again (elizjhaynes)
The sign on the window of the bookshop showed a sale on used books encouraging customers to ‘Get lost again in an old favorite’.
  • Cross-breed (Alicia)
A couple walked by us, both obviously not human- a cross-breed of human and something else, maybe- but not fully human.
  • "Antlers.  Antlers are good." (writingfreak)
“Antlers,” I confirmed.  “Antlers are good.”
  • Beverage Break (writingfreak)
We ordered our beverages to go, a cosmic latte for me and a hot chocolate for Mason, so that we could explore the rest of the shops on the street.
  • Risky Business (Thea)
On the other side of the bookshop was a trendy looking clothing store called ‘Risky Business’.
  • Ultimate Suffering (Nancy)
“By the looks of those mannequins, they should have called the store ‘ultimate suffering’, because that’s what you’ll be doing if you wear those clothes.”
I only wrote like, 700 words today. So, you basically just read everything I wrote today, minus a sentence here or there.

November 18th

Prompts that I done Completed Today:

  • Apanthropinization (Serena) -
“No, course not.  It’s my word of the day app, Mason.  Yesterday’s word was apanthropinization.”
  • Ratatouille (Maggie) -
Knowing that Mason wouldn’t call back right away, I walked into the kitchen and reheated ratatouille from the night before.
  • Oatmeal Cream Pies (Carrie) -
I also grabbed two oatmeal cream pies out of the box on the shelf to eat for dessert.
  • Parrot Who Talks in Foreign Language (Mindy) -
The other book featured a parrot who could only speak in a foreign language, which taught acceptance or something.
  • Blanket Forts (Maggie) -
“Well, it sounds better than what I had planned for the night, which was building blanket forts by the way, so sure.  Let’s go do something tonight.”
  • Something Tastes Wrong (elizjhaynes) -
“This alfredo tastes a little bit off to me,” I said quietly to Mason, setting my fork down on the side of my plate.
  • Joy (Thea) -
I could tell, when I let him order, that Mason was getting some sort of joy out of being in charge for once, and I was kind of having fun not making any decisions.
  • Olive (Thea) -
The only time I didn’t let him make a decision for the rest of the night is when he tried to order me a martini with an olive, instead I had him order me a vodka tonic with a wedge of lime.
  • Aisle (Sushi) -
Mason and I worked our way onto the dance floor, moving down the center aisle of the grand building
  • "Extraction team!" (Nancy) -
“Extraction team!” I yelled.  “We need an extraction team here!”
  • Tragic (Thea) -
“It wouldn’t have been tragic if it had been on purpose,” he said with a grin.
  • Deep Dish Pizza (cianano) -
We stopped at the first pizza place we saw, where we ordered a deep-dish pizza topped with pepperoni, onions, ham, pineapple, and green peppers to split.
  • Romance or Outrageous Action (Nancy) -
Once he was in the driver’s seat, I leaned over and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
    • Clearly, I went with "romance" on this one.
  • Cosmic Latte (Alaina) -
And they have this drink called a ‘Cosmic Latte’.  It is about the tastiest thing I’ve ever had.”
  • Scarlet (Alaina) -
By the time I pulled away from him, his cheeks were a very deep shade of scarlet.

November 17th

I completed all of these prompts today:

  • Danger (Maggie) -
The next night we were in the most danger of getting caught, in my opinion.
  • Describe an outfit completely (writingfreak) -
I looked over Cerise’s outfit, beginning at her feet, she was wearing a pair of beige flats, which, except for the color, would have been a staple in Cerise’s normal wardrobe.  Above her flats, she was in a navy pair of slacks with what I assumed was an elastic waist and pleats, which made me shudder.  Cerise’s blouse was a little more palatable, a beige shirt with little gold polkadots scattered around it.  All in all it looked like a nice outfit for an aging soccer mom, or a wealthy grandmother, but not for Cerise, who was barely old enough to drink and preferred darker colors with bold patterns and lots of metallic details.  And jeans, Cerise was probably dying inside without a proper pair of jeans.
  • Kitty (Maggie) -
The library kitty, whose name I read on the circulation desk, but couldn’t remember, jumped up on the arm of the couch next to Cerise and nudged her hand for pets.
  • Ninja obsessed with gardening (Mindy) -
It was about a ninja whose passion was gardening even though the emperor always made him fight.”
  • Frantic (Maggie) -
    The little girl nodded frantically.
  • Odd Shaped Keys (Alaina) -
The envelope I handed her was filled with oddly shaped keys and two pictures, neither of which contained anyone or anything I recognized.
  • Surprise (Thea) -
“I’m not telling,” he replied.  “It’ll just have to be a surprise!”
  • Wrapping (Thea) -
Coming around to stand in front of the portal with me, Mason wrapped his hand around mine.
  • Mixing (Maggie) -
So, instead of sleeping in for the majority of the day, like I had wanted to, I put on my smartest outfit, mixing some of Cerise’s fancier jewelry with my business clothes.
  • Honey (Carrie) -
Three women with long, honey-colored hair rose out of the water in unison.
  • Snow (deaubreydigest) -
In the glass behind Ms. Perry I could see the reflection of a picture of her and someone standing in front of snow-covered trees.
  • An Unexpected Guest (elizjhaynes) -
“Do you happen to be Ariella May Hulbert?” the stranger asked in a gruff voice after the bartender set his drink in front of him.

November 16th

What's this?  A timely update for "The Sprints Novel"?  Impossible!

Hey, look!  I completed prompts today!

  • Sneakers (Maggie) -
While the phone was ringing, I kicked my foot against the wall, knocking centuries-old dirt off of my sneaker.
  • Laughter (Maggie) -
In the background, I could hear the laughter of children.
  • Tea (Maggie) -
Ten minutes later, Cerise, Mason, and I were sitting in a semi-secluded booth in the back of a tiny diner, each with tea and pie in front of us.
  • Pie (Maggie) -
Ten minutes later, Cerise, Mason, and I were sitting in a semi-secluded booth in the back of a tiny diner, each with tea and pie in front of us.
It was a Maggie day today, I guess.  (By the way, for names here on the blog I just use whatever the sprint leader puts onto the shared google calendar for signing up for sprints shifts, with one exception.  So if you want to now be known as "JimmyBob KillenZeke" you should sign up as that.)

November 15th

Halfway day!!  I didn't write much (again) today, due to last minute Murder Mystery things.

I did, however, write while the Murder Mystery was going on!  Some folks who were questioning me as a suspect noticed and asked "What are you writing?"  My response was a completely untrue "A murder mystery novel!  This stuff is great!"

Anyway, here's wonderwall:

(Easy, I took all prompts given during the times that I was writing.  I wrote for about 2 minutes today at 1 minute intervals, giving me two different sprints to pull prompts from and there were 3 prompts per sprint.  Golden?)

November 14th

I didn't write very much today, due to an extended rehearsal and having things to get ready for a show on the 15th.

But, I did take my 100th prompt:

  • "Odd Shaped Keys" (from Alaina)

For those keeping count, as of today, I've completed 59/100 prompts given to me.

Prompts I Finished Today:

  • Fasten a seat belt (sushi) -
We got into Cerise’s little car and buckled our seat belts.
  • Window (sushi) -
“There’s nothing I can say to convince you to come back, is there?” I asked, staring out the window.
  • Middle (sushi) -
Leaning over the armrest in the middle of our seats, Cerise put her hand on mine.
  • Hair (essbee) -
The wind whipped Cerise’s hair out behind her, giving her an almost magical glow to her.

Ramblings:
If I do as planned (which never happens), I'll finish my 50th prompt tomorrow.  I will also be grabbing prompt number 75, which gives you an idea as to my completed to uncompleted prompt ratio.

If you're familiar at all with the sprint leader's usual schedules, you can tell when I do most of my writing.  It's not favoritism, I swear, it's when you run sprints.  Although, if you follow me on twitter, you'll think I have a favorite prompt-giver, which is wrong.  I only have a least favorite.

November 8th

Previous Prompts, Now Complete:

  • Chicken (writingfreak) -
A chicken ran in front of me, clucking as it went.  I had a sudden urge to kick it, which I immediately, and almost regretfully, squashed.
  • Longbows or Crossbows (writingfreak) -
“Oh, look, longbows,” I said as we passed a small wooden-weapons shop.

“Crossbows are better,” my travelling companion said as we came to a small shop that had shoddy, but period appropriate dresses on the side of it.
  • Oracle (Sushi) -
“Oracles don’t accept money,” a small, frail-looking, old woman said with a thick, vaguely English accent, pushing some fabric that was hanging in front of the door out of her way.
  • Transportation Problems (Nancy) -
I began to panic as I felt Mason’s hand slip away from me.  Suddenly the electricity stopped and the humming turned into a loud buzz.  Looking around me, I could only see blue, but not the same blue I usually saw while travelling through the portal.  Instead, this was more of a midnight blue, and it frightened me.  I felt like I couldn't catch my breath, and, when the portal spit me out, I began to hyperventilate.

Thea.  I have no clue how to fit in all these "double entendre newspaper headline" prompts without actually having a ton of newspapers in my novel.

Over the hum, I began to hear wedding bells as the blue dissolved into a large white stone church.

Mason chuckled, “No thanks, I don't really like to-may-toes.  I'll have some to-mah-toes if you have any, though.”
  • Sesame seeds on Hamburger buns (writingfreak) -
“But, it’s difficult to find the ones with the sesame seeds on top of them.  And, in my humble opinion, why waste money on buns without seeds?”

The mountain of clothes I dumped were still where I left them on the floor, so I decided to start there.

November 4th

Previously Uncompleted Prompts, Now Completed:

  • Constellation (Rion) -
Crossing the yard, I looked up at the stars in the sky, trying to locate one of the constellations, which the cloudy sky made very difficult.
  • A Quiet Hush (Thea) -
We sat there in a quiet hush for a while.
  • New Traveling Companion (Nancy) -
By the time Monday morning came around I was still suspended, as was Mason. ----(Side Note: This was the moment I decided Mason was going to go on the MC's journey with her, so I counted this as using the prompt.)
Today's Completed Prompts:

  • Stripe (Sushi) -
It certainly didn't look like Cerise had meant to leave her home at all, her two striped suitcases were still sitting in the corner of the room, being used as a makeshift shelf for dirty clothes to sit on.
  • Blackberry (Sushi) -
I grabbed the blackberry jelly out of the door and popped a few pieces of bread into the toaster.
  • Apple (Sushi) -
Unfortunately, there wasn't enough jelly to put on half a piece of toast, so I threw both the jar and the lid in the trash and went back to the fridge to grab the apple butter I saw.
  • Sprint (Sushi) -
Throwing on the very first clothes I saw, I changed as quickly as I could, then sprinted back into the living room where Mason sat on the couch, looking both nervous and worried.
  • Eerie, Dark Room (Nancy) -
“Please, tell,” he said, picking up a picture of a dark, damp looking room that was covered with dust and cobwebs, save a few slender footprints on the ground.

    November 3rd

I wrote like, less than 100 words today.  So, consequently, I didn't grab any prompts from @NaNoWordSprints.

To make up for it, though, I'm going to have to write a ton tomorrow and the next day, so .. I should grab a ton of prompts then.

    November 2nd

    Previously Uncompleted Prompts, Now Complete:
    • Branding Iron (CiaNaNo) -
I was setting down a picture of an ancient looking branding iron to the right of the sink when movement outside the window caught my eye.
    • Evil Carrying a martini tray (Jupiter) -
“Ugh, that woman is evil incarnate,” I said, stirring the noodles on the stove.

“And she brought a round of martinis to the table.”
    Today's Completed Prompts:
    • Professor Plum in the library with the rope (Thea) -
“Well, I won’t be wrong this time,” Celine said, grabbing at the little brown envelope in the center of the board.  “I think it’s Professor Plum in the library with the rope!”

“Wrong,” Lydia, Dan, and Ryan said in unison.
    • Lettuce (writingfreak) -
I stabbed another piece of lettuce with my fork and stuffed it into my mouth, still staring out the window.
    • Beet (writingfreak) -
There wasn’t much in my fridge, except some nearly-expired milk and some roasted beets that had surely gone bad by now.
    • Shelves (Thea) -
I poured the pasta back in the pot to mix with some olive oil and breadcrumbs I had grabbed off the shelf to the right of the stove.
    • Organization (Thea) -
After three and a half hours of sitting on the floor and at least a cursory glance at everything that I had taken off of Cerise’s office walls, I had managed to organize everything into four separate piles, probably undoing some of the hard work my best friend.
    • Missing Person (Alicia) -
“I really do appreciate it.  I’d hate to think of my daughter as a missing person.”
    Today's Uncompleted Prompts:

    Random Thoughts:
    • Sometimes it's harder to fit the themed prompts in than it is to fit random ones in.
    • Phrases are really fun to fit in because they lead the situation to the strangest of places.
    • It's neat to see how I can interpret a prompt to fit what I'm writing.
    • I've got to start adding more prompts to my novel, or I'm going to get really behind and things are going to get strange.
    Here's a statistic:  I've completed 17 prompts out of the 29 I have taken.

    Saturday, November 1, 2014

    November 1st

    Prompts I took & Completed:

    • Now & Later (Alicia) -
“Now, now, since when has Simmons been capable of such hate?” Cerise asked.

“I know, I know,” I said, following the crowd into the hallway, the speeches must have ended while I was lost in my own little world, “I’ve just begun to doubt myself is all.  The position is never going to get posted.”

      “It will, sooner or later.”
    • Nerds (Alicia) -
I walked into Clyde’s, our regular bar, behind Cerise only to find that most of the usual bar decorations had been covered up by signs that read “Congrats NERDS.”
    • Life Sized (Alicia) -
“Fine, not a giant nerd, but at least a life-sized one,” Cerise responded with a grin.
    • Castle (Cylithria) -
One picture was of an old looking castle, somewhere in the English countryside I guessed.
    • Serena (Serena) -
The next memo I read came from Serena Mallory, the head of security and Cerise’s direct supervisor.
    • Cornerstone by Artic Monkeys (Serena) -
I moved on to the next picture, which was of a decorated cornerstone of a fancy red brick building.
    • Mysterious message from the future (Lauren) -
I began to read the document Cerise was typing in last which was, oddly, a letter to me, dated three days from now.
    • "Do you like giraffes?" (Jupiter) -
The man at Cerise’s door chuckled, “Do you like giraffes?”
    • Describe a character's hair style (Writingfreak) -
The man at Cerise’s door ran a hand through his thick, dark hair

    • Branding Iron (Cianano)
    • Apanthropinization (Serena)

      .....Probably.
